Shanxi Science & Technology Museum
Shanxi Science & Technology Museum was stablished in 1983 and officially inaugurated in February 1988. In October 2013, the museum celebrated the opening of its new facility.
Situated in the provincial capital, Taiyuan, the new museum boasts a sprawling architectural expanse spanning 30,000 square meters. It is a multifaceted institution designed to fulfill a diverse array of functions. These include permanent exhibitions, temporary displays, cutting-edge audiovisual presentations, scientific workshops, astronomical observation facilities, science lectures, mobile science and technology exhibitions, and educational training,etc.
The centerpiece of the museum's offerings is its permanent exhibition, anchored in the theme of "Science and Technology: The Wisdom of Human Exploration and Innovation." This comprehensive exhibit is subdivided into five main themes, encompassing the foundations of human cognitive structures, the wisdom of knowing the world, the wisdom of changing the world,the wisdom of harmonious development, and the paradise of science and wisdom. Within this context, visitors can explore thematic galleries such as "Mathematics," "Cosmos and Life," "Machinery and Power," "Towards the Future," and the delightful "Children's Science Paradise."
The museum's dome-screen cinema employs state-of-the-art digital audiovisual equipment. The XD Motion Cinema, incorporating 4D tactile sensations and interactive effects, delivers a truly immersive experience, captivating audiences with breathtaking visuals and dynamic sensory stimulation. The astronomical observatory actively engages in celestial science outreach, nurturing a shared interest in astronomical exploration among the public.
The museum also houses nine distinct studios, including the "Innovation Workshop," "Mechanical Engineers' Cradle," and "Fun Science,etc" each tailored to accommodate the unique cognitive attributes of visitors of all ages. Innovative program formats, such as scientific experiments, popular science play, and scientific show, continually engage and educate the public.
Since 2002, the "Shanxi Science Forum" has organized over 840 popular science lectures, reaching an audience of more than 1.5 million individuals. This exceptional initiative has been recognized by the Central Cultural-Ethical Office and included in the "100 Cases of China’s Initiatives for Raising Cultural-Ethical Standards."
The "Science Experience" project, a mobile science and technology exhibition, covers all 11 cities and 96 counties within Shanxi Province, promoting equitable access to public science education.
Moreover, the museum is deeply committed to fostering cooperation with educational institutions. It vigorously supports the cultivation of young talents through innovative science and technology competitions.
The Shanxi Science & Technology Museum has been honored with multiple distinctions, including recognition as an advanced collective in the "National Action Plan for Enhancing Scientific Literacy," a national base for science popularization education, a national base for digital literacy and skills training, a patriotic education base in Shanxi Province, and the educational base for scientist spirit.
山西省科学技术馆成立于1983年，1988年2月建成开馆。2013年10月新馆建成开放。
新馆位于省城太原，建筑面积3万平方米，主要功能包括常设展览、短期展览、特效影视、科学工作室、天文观测、科普讲座、流动科技馆、教育培训等。
常设展览以“科技——人类探索与创造的智慧”为主题，以人类思维结构的基础、认知世界的智慧、改变世界的智慧、和谐发展的智慧、科学智慧乐园为分主题，设有“数学”“宇宙与生命”“机器与动力”“走向未来”展厅及“儿童科学乐园”。
穹幕影院采用国际一流的数字视听设备，XD动感影院集4D动感与XD交互特效为一体，给观众以强烈震撼的沉浸感和视听新感受。天文观测台积极开展天文科普活动，培养公众天文探索兴趣。
场馆建有“创意工作室”“机械师摇篮”及“趣科学”等9个工作室，针对不同年龄段观众的认知特点开发不同的科学课程。同时，不断创新活动形式，推出科学实验、科普剧、科学秀等科普活动。
“山西科学讲坛”自2002年共举办科普讲座840余场，受众150余万人，被中央文明办列入《全国精神文明创建工作100例》。
“体验科学”——中国流动科技馆山西巡展项目，覆盖全省11市96个县，助力实现公共科普服务均等化。
场馆不断加强馆校合作，大力实施青少年科技创新后备人才培育计划，高质量开展各类科技竞赛。
场馆先后被评为《全民科学素养行动计划纲要》实施工作先进集体、全国科普教育基地、全民数字素养与技能培训基地、山西省爱国主义教育基地、科学家精神教育基地等。
